Rise to Fame
He spent years doing bit parts and making ends meet as a makeup artist on film sets before anyone noticed. The Hurt Locker changed that in 2009. His Best Actor nomination for playing a reckless bomb disposal tech made the industry take him seriously. A year later, a Best Supporting Actor nod for The Town. Back-to-back nominations in different categories, which almost nobody pulls off. Marvel hired him to play Hawkeye off the strength of those roles, but the dramatic credibility came first.
In the Spotlight
He got crushed by a snowplow on New Year's Day 2023, suffered more than 30 broken bones, and was briefly dead before being revived. He later said he was pissed off when they brought him back. He went from critical condition to filming Mayor of Kingstown season 3 just over a year after the accident. Season 4 premiered in October 2025. A fifth and final season got greenlit in January 2026. He's described himself as 25% titanium now, which puts him ahead of Iron Man in the hardware department.
Side Notes
His parents ran a bowling alley in Modesto, California, and divorced when he was ten, leaving him the oldest of seven siblings. He studied computer science and criminology at community college before a drama class changed direction. A self-taught pianist, guitarist, and drummer, he released a recovery-themed EP called Love and Titanium in 2024. At 12, he built instruments from cardboard and charged his sister's friends to hear him play.
