Part of Fast & Furious featuring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and Tyrese Gibson.
Three years of DJ savings bankrolled Incognegro, a self-released album that Atlanta took seriously before any major label did. Working Hot 97.5 under the name 'Chris Lova Lova' gave him the market advantage most rappers could only dream of: daily airplay for his own records. Def Jam South eventually noticed, repackaged the album as Back for the First Time, and it went triple platinum. 'Stand Up' and 'Money Maker' both hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He cracked the mainstream while most Dirty South rappers were still regional acts.
The last studio album came out in 2015, but that's not really the point anymore. Between seven Fast & Furious installments as Tej Parker (reportedly earning around $25 million), four seasons of Karma's World on Netflix, and a Chicken + Beer airport restaurant chain, he's built a career that doesn't depend on new music. He got a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2023 and appeared at Usher's Super Bowl halftime show in 2024. The music catalog still runs the checks; the brand runs everything else.
He's cousins with Katt Williams and reportedly second cousin once removed of Richard Pryor, which is either coincidence or proof that one family line is doing all the work in American comedy and rap. Georgia State made him artist-in-residence in 2019 and handed him an honorary degree in 2022, for a radio DJ who built his early career by playing his own records. Still drives the 1993 Acura Legend he had before the deal, and claims it keeps him grounded. Early DTP compilations featured an unknown MC called Tity Boi. That turned out to be 2 Chainz.
