Part of The Office featuring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and Ed Helms.
He spent about two decades working comedy before anyone outside of improv circles knew his name. Starting with the Shock of the Funny troupe in New York in 1986, then the Groundlings in LA, with bit parts on Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Italian Job along the way. The break came with The Office in 2005, where he played Oscar Martinez, a quietly dignified gay accountant navigating the absurdity of Dunder Mifflin. The character worked because he didn't beg for laughs. He was the calm center of the joke.
He's the only original Office cast member who crossed over to The Paper, Greg Daniels' Peacock follow-up set in the same universe. Oscar Martinez is now head accountant at a Toledo operation that shares office space with a struggling newspaper. The show hit 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and got a second season greenlit before the first one even aired. For a guy who spent years getting overlooked in bit parts, being the one they called is the punchline to a very long setup.
Born in Cuba, Nuñez came to the US as a toddler after his family stopped first in Venezuela. His parents were both professionals who attended the University of Havana alongside Fidel Castro before settling in New Jersey. He's a certified dental technician, credentials from the Magna Institute of Dental Technology. He and his wife rescue retired show dogs. The gap between trained dental tech and The Office cast member is longer than it looks.
