At 20, surgery to remove a tumor from her chest required her vocal cords to be removed and reinserted, which permanently altered her voice. That's the kind of detail that doesn't fit neatly into a career origin story, but the rest of it does: a friend dragged her to a casting call looking for drummers, an agent noticed her, and Chris Columbus put her in I Love You, Beth Cooper. Guest spots on Supernatural and TV movies filled out the early years before she landed Octavia Blake on The 100 in 2014. Seven seasons, all her own stunts.
Post-The 100, she's working the action-thriller circuit rather than waiting for prestige TV to call back. The Painter and King of Killers both arrived in 2024; Queen of the Ring (2025) cast her in a biopic about real-life wrestler Mildred Burke. A 2018 incident where she was charged with domestic violence after arguing with her boyfriend on a highway got dismissed, ruled an adverse reaction to new medication mixed with alcohol. The career is quieter post-Octavia, but she's still doing her own stunts.
She grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, hunting and fishing on Lake Superior's shores, which explains both the stuntwork comfort and the purple Harley Davidson she rides now. Broadcast journalism was her first plan; she dropped out, backpacked Europe, then slept in her car in LA before The 100 changed things. She paints nature-themed canvases in her spare time and works with FFLV India, a girls' school where 1,500+ students are on the waitlist. The outdoorsy kid from Northern Ontario found the one job where her whole background was an asset.
