Rise to Fame
His father was Freddie Prinze Sr., Chico and the Man star, dead at 22 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when FPJ was 10 months old. He kept the name anyway. The breakthrough came through the late-'90s teen horror wave: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) turned him into a poster boy, and She's All That (1999) made it official, grossing $63 million in the US and landing him on magazine covers. He got famous fast, then the wave broke.
In the Spotlight
After Scooby-Doo (2002), his film career quietly stalled. He went from magazine covers to WWE creative (writer 2007-2009, producer 2010-2012), a pivot that surprised most people who knew him only from teen rom-coms. Voicing Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018) gave him a second franchise identity. His wrestling promotion dream died in 2025 after he secured a TV deal but couldn't find a promotion to fill the airtime, which is a very specific kind of almost.

He met Sarah Michelle Gellar on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), married her in 2002, and they've since played on-screen romantic partners in Scooby-Doo and on-screen enemies in Star Wars Rebels. Outside of acting, he holds a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, voiced Lieutenant James Vega in Mass Effect 3 and The Iron Bull in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and published a cookbook called Back to the Kitchen in 2016. He originally planned to be a civil engineer before Neil Patrick Harris visited his high school and changed his mind.
