Rise to Fame
A Nickelodeon sitcom and a string of forgettable teen films gave her a fan base and a ceiling. Ryan Murphy blew up the ceiling. As Madison Montgomery in American Horror Story: Coven (2013), she played the telekinetic mean girl with enough cold wit that the internet treated her lines like scripture. Six seasons later, Murphy was still calling.
In the Spotlight
The acting work has gotten lighter (rom-coms, occasional thrillers), but the producing credits are building. Her company Belletrist TV had a first-look deal at Hulu, and Tell Me Lies (2022) was the debut. The nepo baby conversation follows her everywhere. She has said she's lost more jobs than she's gained from being a Roberts, which is either the truth or a very well-calibrated talking point. The Hulu deal suggests Hollywood is buying it.
Side Notes
The Roberts name came pre-complicated. Julia is her aunt, not a distant benchmark, and she grew up visiting Julia's sets. Her father Eric, an Oscar-nominated actor, told a podcast in 2024 he contributed 'absolutely nothing' to her career. In 2013, Montreal police arrested her after boyfriend Evan Peters was found injured in their hotel room. Peters declined to press charges. They dated for six more years.
