Part of Grammys 2026 featuring Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, and Lady Gaga.
'Yucky Blucky Fruitcake' started as a joke title. Doechii posted it independently in 2020 and TikTok did the rest, turning a Tampa rapper nobody knew into a name labels couldn't ignore. Capitol Records and TDE came calling in 2022, making her the first female rapper signed to the label that built Kendrick Lamar. 'What It Is (Block Boy)' put her on the Hot 100 in 2023. She recorded Alligator Bites Never Heal in roughly a month and dropped it in August 2024. It won Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammys. People with years and budgets lost.
The 2025 Grammy win made her a legitimate star. 'Anxiety' had been sitting on YouTube since 2019. She officially released it in 2025 with a Gotye sample, and it hit the top 10 on the Hot 100. A six-year-old song doing that while her debut album hadn't even dropped. The Record of the Year nomination at the 2026 Grammys followed, and she won Best Music Video. She hasn't released a studio album yet. All of this is still the opening act.
The name 'Doechii' started in a diary. She invented the character at 11, a Tampa kid getting bullied who needed somewhere to put a version of herself that wasn't afraid. She grew up splitting time between her mother's church (six days a week, Christian marching band) and her father Snatcha Da Boss's recording studio. Howard W. Blake High School gave her classical choral training, ballet, and a diploma in vocal tech. She came out publicly as queer in a 2022 GQ interview. The Alligator Bites title came from a real label conflict she described as a death roll. She called herself the predator.
