Breaking Bad (Marie Schrader)

Rise to Fame

She spent most of the 2000s picking up guest spots on ER, NCIS, and the usual television circuit before Breaking Bad gave her a role worth remembering. She auditioned for three different parts before landing Marie Schrader, then immediately made the character her own: making Marie a radiologic technologist was Brandt's idea, not the writers'. Marie's all-purple wardrobe (creator Vince Gilligan has said the color signals the character's self-deception) became one of TV's most recognizable visual gimmicks. Three SAG nominations followed, and the guest-spot years receded into footnote territory.

In the Spotlight

Post-Breaking Bad, she took the expected TV route: The Michael J. Fox Show (2013), then four years on the CBS ensemble comedy Life in Pieces (2015-2019). She doesn't seem interested in movie stardom. In 2024, she executive produced and starred in a Lifetime thriller called The Bad Orphan. In 2025, she joined Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches as a series regular, back on AMC where her career got its defining role. The work is steady, mid-tier, and seems entirely intentional.

Side Notes

She grew up in Bay City, Michigan, daughter of a teacher and an electrician. With an MFA from Harvard's Institute for Advanced Theater Training and time at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, she brought serious formal credentials to a role she'd later describe as 'an unpleasant bitch.' When Better Call Saul wrapped in 2022, she returned as Marie for the series finale, the only Breaking Bad character in the present-day timeline besides Saul himself.
